Planning social media. Who would've thought that'd be a thing. It sounds a little ridiculous doesn't it? Planning what you think you want to say that day. You may ask: what's the point?
Well, there actually is a really big point. Social media has become the number one thing employers look at when deciding on who they want to work for their company. Social Media has become more than just a place you share your thoughts, it has become a giant whirlwind that has taken the internet my storm. It's not just social media anymore. It is your social media presence, and it is important.
That's why this post is all about helping you learn how to plan, schedule, and construct your social media posts made for success.
DECIDE ON YOUR FOCUS
The first step is figuring out whats the point that YOU want to get across. For me, I broke my message up into three parts: passion, storytelling and public relations. I decided to focus on these three the most because I felt as though they describe me the most. So, if you look at any of my social media content you will see a lot of posts related to writing and PR. For example, on Twitter I retweet a lot of posts from Writer's Digest, not only because they interest me, but because it relates to my focus. As for passion, it's my son. If you see any of my mom posts that's why.
Pick some keywords about yourself and stick to it. What interests you? What do you want to be known for? Think about it and then you can start planning.
CHOOSE YOUR PLATFORMS
This is the fun part. Pick what social media sites you want to be a part of. Some of the popular ones are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. You don't have to stick to just those either. Feel free to google different social media sites. Others include Tumblr, Reddit, and Pinterest.
It is important to make sure that whichever social media sites you use remain consistent with each other. For example, my Twitter handle is @faccenda_jenna and my Instagram handle is @jenna_faccenda. They are different but still similar (you could have the same handle for each if you want). All of my social media accounts also include my "brand" in the description/bio: Passionate | Storyteller | PR Enthusiast.
SCHEDULE YOUR POSTS
Use an online planner to plan and schedule your posts. I use Hootsuite a cool and easy website that allows me to plan out my posts for Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin. By using a site like this, you don't only get to put thought into your social media posts, but you get to schedule it for a certain date and time. By scheduling your posts you get to go on with your day without being glued to your phone.
What are you waiting for? Get out there and start your journey on becoming a social media pro!
